Hey There,

Summer has just started; the heat is killing in Mumbai I must say. It’s really difficult to shoot or travel in day time when sun rays are burning skin. Tan skin work for me sometimes, being dry and sensitive skin type the tan remains on skin for very long time maybe for months. Its better to prevent the skin from tanning and burning if you use right sunscreen and right way. Here at TSS, these are 5 sunscreen that comes in budget and they are pretty much good to go this summer.

1st pick – 5 Himalaya Protective Sunscreen lotion SPF 15

Himalaya Herbals Protective Sunscreen Lotion with SPF 15 Review: An effective daily moisturizer is bliss to the skin. The skins tends to get torn and deteriorated by the dirt and pollution all round. A good moisturizer acts like a savior to it. And if it is endowed with sun-control factors then its icing on the top.

Himalaya Herbals Protective Sunscreen Lotion with SPF 15, a moisturizer with SPF 15. Is good if you are out only for an hour in sun or morning time when the sun is not that harsh. Apply a good amount before 10 to 15 min stepping out and this will help to give you an average protection from sun ray.

The product claims to be an effective sun-shield for the skin, moisturizes it as well. It is a unique blend of sunscreen and moisturizer for effective daily use. However, am not very impressed and do not find it standing on its claims altogether.

Product Life: 3 years

Price: 180 to 200 INR for 100 Ml

The Season Style Reviews: The product tends to wear out my face as it sweats a lot. Even after following the ritual of applying it 20 minutes prior to my sun-introduction, the cream creates a fuss making the skin to perspire. When rubbed across the face, it created white blots which looked so uneasy and barren. However, usage of it on my hands and feet resulted as benefactor. I could also feel the complexion of my hand and feet lightened. It appeared greasy when I applied first, but later on it blended well on the other exposed territories of my body, leave aside my face.

Pros:

  • 2-in -1 package of sunscreen and moisturizer
  • Travel friendly
  • Sun-protector (in my case worked out only on hands & feet)
  • Easily available in any beauty store

Cons:

  • Makes the face whitish with white blots
  • Does not control tanning
  • Sweats a lot
  • Becomes runny with the rise in temperature

TSS Rating: 6/10

2nd pick -Lakme Sun Expert Fairness + UV Lotion SPF 24 & PA++

This is a light feel expert solution to provide broad spectrum protection from UVA & UVB rays. This is a dermatological tested product for all skin types. The entire products of Sun Expert range are coded to have the same color packaging of deep yellow. Only thing that differs is the shape of the bottle in which they come. This is the typical plastic bottle packaging which is tilted to one side with a flip open cap at the top. The bottle is opaque. Overall packaging is average. The sunscreen is light yellow in color and has a creamy consistency but actually it doesn’t makes the skin greasy at all, instead it evenly spreads and is absorbed by the skin within few seconds of application. There is a specific sweet smell of Lakme moisturizer and that is exactly the same fragrance this sunscreen has but it doesn’t stays on like forever. It fades away eventually

The Season Style Review: Lakme Sun Expert Fairness + UV Lotion SPF 24 & PA++:This has been a good sunscreen for me this season and I liked the range of protection it offers from the UVA & UVB rays. SPF 24 is appropriate for my normal skin. I apply it before stepping out in the sun not 20 minutes before but roughly 10-15 minutes before and I don’t feel that the sweating caused by the raising temperature is making my face oily or anything. The fragrance is okay for me, as it fades soon after absorption it won’t cause any problem for others too!

Directions to use: Smooth onto face and exposed parts of the skin at least 20minutes before sun exposure.

Pros:

  • Creamy consistency but not at all greasy
  • Economically priced
  • Good SPF value of 24
  • Light feel formula
  • Moisturizing to the skin
  • Absorbs quickly
  • Non-messy packaging

Cons:

  • Has Paraben

Price: INR 150 for 60 ml.

TSS Rating: 8/10

3rd pick – Lotus Herbals 3-in-1 matte look daily sunblock (SPF 40)

Lotus Herbals 3-in-1 matte look daily sunblock claims-3-in-1 daily sunblock is a revolutionary sun protection formulation which combines broad-spectrum UVA (PA +++) & UVB(SPF 40) protection with skin lightening ingredients to give a uniform matte finish to the skin. Its fast absorption and non-greasy formula ensures a shine-free, light & clean feel.

Herbal extracts of birch, mallow & hops.

The Season Style Review: This is my one the favorite sunscreen for summer if I stepping out for minimum 3 hour in sun. This comes in a tube. The consistency is gel like. It is an opaque formula; I feel it leaves the tint to even out the skin tone, in turn making it bright and even toned. (Non moisturizing) . This is not a smooth gel/fluid.. I feel rough when I rub it in my face. It definitely is mattifying.. I was a little skeptical about using this during my very dry skin days, but this DID NOT LET ME DOWN. It dint dry me out. No stretchy feeling after this. This delivers what it claims- for all skin types, mattifying and sun protection.

Pros:

  • Good moisture for dry skin
  • Face does look brighter.
  • This spreads very easily,
  • Fragrance free. I don’t like its fragrance. Stays on for quite some time.

Cons

  • The opening in the tube is quite big and this product can get a little runny and spill out and create a mess

Priced: INR 275 for 120 g.

TSS Rating: 8/10

4th pick L’Oreal Paris UV Perfect Aqua Essence City Mist SPF 50 PA++++

L’Oreal Paris UV Perfect Aqua Essence City Mist SPF 50 PA++++ comes in a blue colored, aluminium bottle, which is very similar to a deodrant bottle. It comes with a pump dispenser with a very tiny hole that makes sure that absolutely no product is wasted and has a semi transparent cap. The name of the product is written in front of the bottle and all other details are written like how to use, ingredients, etc on the back of the bottle. The cap shuts with an audible click sound, thus secures the product within and makes it travel friendly. The mist is whitish in colored. When sprayed on the face, it gives cooling sensation It is also mentioned that we should not spray for more than 3 seconds at a time. After spraying one needs to blend it, but even after blending it leaves a oily, greasy layer and makes the face look shiny. As I already have oily skin, this makes me look like an oil tank. It did not give me any pimples. This face mist will mostly suit dry skinned people.

Use UV PERFECT AQUA ESSENCE CITY FACE MIST any moment during the day. Shake well until you hear the ball before use. Hold 15 cms away from the face spray evenly and liberally onto face but don’t spray more than 3 seconds at the same place. Close and protect the eyes and mouth during application. Do not intentionally inhale. Wipe excess product on the mouth and eyes. Avoid the eye area- In case of irritation sensation on the eyes, rinse them immediately with water and avoid spraying later. Reapply after swimming and excessive perspiration. If you extend sun exposure, use an adapted sunscreen.

The Season Style Review: Should I Repurchase or Recommend L’Oreal Paris UV Perfect Aqua Essence City Mist SPF 50 PA++++: I will absolutely never ever buy this product again and all the oily beauties, stay away from this. Dry skinned beauties will absolutely love it.

Pros:

  • Sturdy and travel friendly packaging.
  • SPF 50 pa++++.
  • Protects from UVA and UVB rays.
  • Can be used on makeup.
  • Will suit dry skin.

Cons:

  • Not recommended for oily skin.

Price: INR 799

TSS Rating : 9/10

5th pick – Lotus Herbals Daily Multi-Functional Sun Block SPF 70

This is my current favorite unblock, I use it on face before make up. I like the tint and foundation kind of coverage which looks flawless.  Again coverage is similar, but SPF 70 feels slightly lighter on the skin and of course its pleasant fragrance is way better!! Honestly speaking, I don’t spend a lot of time out in the sun because I tan very easily.  Both SPF 40 and SPF 70 gave me the same kind of excellent sun protection for the time that I was out in the sun (20 minutes).

Pros:

  • Light moisturizer, oil free.
  • Great fragrance, mild and pleasant. Even a sensitive nose like mine approved the smell.
  • Did not break me out.
  • Very good sun protection!! Prevents brown spots and tanning like any good sunscreen should.
  • Preservative and paraben free.
  • Has carrot and avocado extracts.
  • Matte but not too matte (you know what I mean)!! When I used a good moisturizer below, it actually gives a beautiful dewy look.
  • Sheer coverage, perfect for every day office look for beauties blessed with a good skin.
  • Really lightweight, feels nice and cool on applying.

Cons:

  • Beauties with very dry skin will need extra moisturizer for the dewy look.
  • SPF 40 is Rs 356 and SPF 70 is Rs. 555. The price difference is HUGE!!! If you keep aside the price, Lotus Herbals Daily Multi-Functional Sun Block with SPF 70 is a very good product!!

Price: INR 555

TSS Rating 10/10
