Hey there,
Fashion has gone totally high-tech on us this year with the Holographic trend. Stella McCartney and Boss first came up with holographic clutches and side paneled dresses in shimmering swathes of silver trending on gold, sapphire and ruby. Net-a-Porter and Matches Fashion sold out of Gianvito Rossi and Pierre Hardy’s holographic pumps before you could even hit the “add to basket” button.
So what is this Holograpgic trend?
Theory -A hologram (pronounced HOL-o-gram ) is a three-dimensional image, created with photographic projection. The term is taken from the Greek words holos (whole) and gramma (message). Unlike 3-D or virtual reality on a two-dimensional computer display, a hologram is a truly three-dimensional and free-standing image that does not simulate spatial depth or require a special viewing device. Theoretically, holograms could someday be transmitted electronically to a special display device in your home and business.
The theory of holography was developed by Dennis Gabor in 1947. The development of laser technology made holography possible.
I’ve pretty much had a lifelong love affair with iridescent fabrics. I love the way items made with these materials turn into magical rainbow prisms in the light. But apparently I’m not the only one who loves holos either: Much like super shiny metallic’s, holo can be worn as a neutral if paired with the right pieces. It can also be extremely hard to wear if you’re not used to wearing such sparkly magical things, and that’s where I come in. Here are a few outfit ideas:
THE SEASON STYLE TIPS
- If you’re going to wear a holographic piece of clothing, like a skirt or a top, or jeans like me it’s important to mix it in with neutrals so you don’t end up looking too space raver (did I just make that up?) , I like to wear my holographic jeans with casual, plainer pieces like a soft plain white t-shirt or crop top like mine, you can pair up a white button up and a long black cardigan, or a fluffy cropped sweater. Wearing anything too tight and revealing tends to look a bit too spacey sexy girl costume- unless of course you’re going for that.
- Adding hints of hologram through jewelry, shoes, or hair accessories can be a super-easy way to introduce crazy rainbow shiny things into your life, and your outfits. Right now, I’m totally in love with my Holographic oversized bag.
- The simplest way to work holo into your wardrobe by far is to add a handbag or a clutch. In this form, the holographic material acts as a statement, or a “pop of color” if you will, but because it’s primarily silver or gold it can be matched up with any outfit you like! I ordered this along with my denim, and it’s big enough to use as a shopping bag when I have much to carry.
- Over all the holiday sequin and sparkly ready, these glitzy metallic wedge for sleeker shine. I found my wedges online and I am completely in love with them. You can also find holo footwear almost on any website.
